LAMED Policy on Joint Sponsorship
Preamble:
LAMED may choose to jointly sponsor CME activities with non-accredited sponsors when the activity is compatible with our mission statement and the activity will help meet our goal of providing relevant CME activities for physicians in our area. As the accredited sponsor, LAMED accepts the responsibility for insuring that the Essential Areas and Elements of the Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA) are met for any jointly sponsored educational activity in which LAMED participates.

General Responsibility:
  1. LAMED must be involved from the beginning of the planning and implementation of any jointly sponsored activity and will provide overview of the planning process. It is anticipated that planning should be initiated at least three months in advance of the activity to enable adequate planning time, approval, and implementation of the approved program.
  2. Any non-accredited provider must agree to act in accordance with all of OSMA’s standards, as well as to adhere to all policies and procedures established by LAMED’s Continuing Medical Education Committee.
  3. A physician must serve on the planning committee.
  4. There will be a written agreement between LAMED and the joint sponsor(s). This agreement will delineate the responsibilities for planning, implementation and evaluation of the activity. LAMED will maintain responsibility for the following criteria:
    1. Identified and documented needs
    2. Determination of objectives and content
    3. Selection of faculty
    4. Designation of CME hours
    5. Record keeping
    6. Evaluation and certificates
    7. The budget
  5. No brochure, flyer, sign, or other publicity may be circulated until the LAMED CME Committee has approved the activity and a rough draft has been reviewed and approved by the CME Staff.
  6. There will be a fee of $150 per credit for each jointly sponsored activity to be paid to LAMED.  There will be a fee of $500 for each additional day for each jointly sponsored activity to be paid to LAMED.
  7. The brochure and/or flyer must prominently display a statement that the activity is sponsored by LAMED or a consortium member jointly sponsored with (name of non-accredited co-sponsor). Printed materials shall list the target audience, objectives of the activity, faculty, schedule for each presentation, objectives, fee, location, and all other information necessary to facilitate registration, proper acknowledgment of support by companies providing grants and finally the LAMED approved accreditation statement: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Ohio State Medical Association through the joint sponsorship of LAMED and (insert name of non-accredited sponsor). LAMED is accredited by OSMA to provide continuing medical education for physicians. LAMED designates this live activity for a maximum of ____ hour(s) in category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
  8. This document will also serve as a preliminary agreement that must be on file to initiate a planning activity. A joint sponsorship relationship will be offered only if the above conditions are agreed to by the non-accredited sponsor in advance of any substantive planning.
