Lima Area Medical Education Development
Continuing Medical Education Mission Statement
Purpose:
The purpose of Lima Area Medical Education Development Inc. (LAMED) is to provide an organized and easily accessible continuing medical education program for Lima area physicians and when appropriate, other health care professionals.
Content:
The content areas of primary importance in considering CME topics for LAMED are driven by identifying gaps in knowledge, performance, or competence. In addition to primary and specialty clinical content, educational activities are integrated with practice management skills to enhance efficient and effective strategies. Activity content is reviewed and approved by the continuing medical education committee of LAMED.
Target Audience:
Consortium members of the organization including members of the Academy of Medicine of Lima and Allen County and Lima Memorial Health System and St. Rita’s Medical Center medical staff members will be focused on as the predominant audience. CME activities will be available to other area physicians including local retired physicians.
Type of activities:
LAMED strives to provide a variety of CME opportunities in an effort to meet adult education principles and to complement differences in learning styles. Examples of such activities include:
o Didactic lectures
o Symposia (Pediatric, Urogynecology, Trauma)
o Workshops (e.g. ACLS and PALS)
o Jointly sponsored and Co-provided activities (Cardiovascular Symposia and SRMC Heart Center Cardiology Conference)
o RSS Activities (e.g. Trauma, Echo, Cardiovascular)
o Combined CME/CLE activity with Allen County Bar Association
o Multidisciplinary Cancer Care Conferences
o Internet Enduring Material
o Journal Club
o Performance Improvement CME
Expected Results of the Program:
The effectiveness of our CME program is evaluated on an ongoing basis through individual activity evaluations by assessing changes in physician competence and/or performance. Additionally, a systematic overall program evaluation is conducted on an annual basis. The results of these evaluations will be applied to planning and improving subsequent activities. Whenever feasible, educational outcome measurements will be conducted to assess changes in physician learning, behavior, and/or clinical outcomes with the goal to provide the highest quality of patient care.
