About us: Our Physician Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program was established in 1979. Our CME Program is accredited by the Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA). As such, we follow its policies, procedures and guidelines. We are a consortium of the Academy of Medicine of Lima and Allen County and St. Rita’s Medical Center.

The LAMED Board of Trustees is comprised of 17 physicians who represent the consortium members and at-large positions, 9 of these physicians serve on the CME Committee.

The exclusive function of LAMED is to provide organized continuing medical education program for the medical staff and when appropriate, other health care professionals. LAMED participants are presumed to be members of the medical community who desire to acquire credit hours for relicensure without having to travel outside of the Lima area for continuing medical education. Participants will ordinarily be professional staff members of St. Rita’s Medical Center and/or members of the Academy of Medicine of Lima and Allen County. CME activities shall remain open to any active or retired physician.

We accredit formal CME activities such as lectures, panel discussions, clinicopathological conferences, and workshops, as well as less formal medical literature and audiovisual presentations. We endeavor to bring outside expertise to this area on a regular basis as well as to encourage the sharing of knowledge by local medical professionals. Our CME program produces category 1 activities in conjunction with staff meetings at St. Rita’s Medical Center and for the Academy of Medicine. Accreditation is also given to regularly scheduled conferences at St. Rita's such as: Cancer Conference, Cardiovascular Medicine & Surgery Grand Rounds, Echo Conference, Trauma Rounds/Reports, ACLS, and PALS. In addition, we schedule symposia and special educational projects as the need arises. We believe that the ultimate impact of our program is to enable physicians to serve patients to the best of their abilities and live up to professional standards of excellence.

In January 2008, the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) published an informational booklet entitled, “CME as a Bridge to Quality: Leadership, Learning, and Change within the ACCME® System” as a resource for the CME system and its stakeholders.
